HBA Cares Helps Break Ground on John Zay Guest House Expansion
Category: News & Information
In the eight years since opening, the John Zay Guest House has almost always been full, with a consistent waiting list of 7 to 10 parties. There have been as many as 20 groups waiting for a room -- enough to more than fill an entire second house. June 23, 2016 marked the groundbreaking on the much-needed expansion project of the original John Zay Guest House, built in 2008.

John Zay Expansion Groundbreaking Event - June 23, 2016Construction of the expansion is anticipated to take approximately 15 months, with the opening of the new space currently scheduled for mid-October, 2017.This expansion will provide between 3,600 and 4,000 additional nights of lodging per year for patients and their families. HBA Cares coordinated and secured $500,000 of donated services and materials for this important project.

“HBA Cares and the HBA of Colorado Springs are honored to be part of the John Zay Guest House expansion project,” said Mike DeGrant, HBA Cares President. “We appreciate the support from the many donors and contributors who have come together to make this much-needed project a reality, including KGA Studio Architects, JR Engineering, N.E.S. Inc., Classic Homes, and Vantage Homes.”

DeGrant gave special recognition to George Hess of Vantage Homes, the Builder Captain on the project. “George has been the driving force behind this project, and we truly value his leadership,” he commented.
